I registered and got right in about 5 minutes before they started (OSX Lion, Firefox)....

I have to say, judging by the questions I saw being posted+answered in the discussion, 99.9% of the people who are ordering this thing have NO CLUE WHATSOEVER what it is and what it can and can't do...

I'm actually really worried that when they start shipping people are going to get them and be highly disappointed and start complaining (when in reality it's their own darn fault for not doing just a LITTLE research before ordering.) EVERY question I saw posted was something that was either:

1) general linux stuff - (can it run a web server, can it run this can it run that?)

or

2) stuff that's been asked and answered in here 100x over, or is on the wiki or FAQ...

I just hope the disappointment by those people doesn't turn into a black eye for the RPF + RPi itself...

There isn’t much any small group of people can do to address problems like an inadequate school curriculum or the end of a financial bubble. But we felt that we could try to do something about the situation where computers had become so expensive and arcane that programming experimentation on them had to be forbidden by parents; and to find a platform that, like those old home computers, could boot into a programming environment.

Over the next few years, Eben, having left the university for industry, worked on building prototypes of what has now become the Raspberry Pi in his spare time.
